Side Effects + Management

While the radiation kills the cancer cells, it also damages healthy cells. The damage made to these healthy cells causes some negative effects called side effects. The side effects you may experience will depend on the area of your body we are treating.

One side effect you will likely experience is the feeling of being extra tired, or fatigue. A couple of the best ways to lessen fatigue feelings are to drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods. Doing these things will help your healthy cells stay strong during your treatment.

Another common side effect for patients having their head treated is hair loss. Losing your hair is not going to last forever, but your hair may grow back a different color or slower after treatment is over.

The nurses will tell you more about side effects you may experience due to your specific cancer.

After Care

After your treatments are done, your side effects may last for one to two more weeks. Continue the side effect care that the nurses and doctor talk to you about. You will have a follow-up appointment with your doctor in three months to see how well the treatment worked.
