The First Appointment
Before you begin your radiation treatments, you will come in for a treatment planning appointment. During this appointment, you will work with a team of radiation therapists who will help you get in the position you will be in for your treatments.

You will lie down on a table similar to the one you will be on for your treatments. This table will be raised and go in and out of a machine called a CT scanner. This machine will take 3D images of your body that we will use to make your treatment plan.

In this appointment, we will make some special equipment that will help you stay still during your treatments. Some patients will lay in a bean bag that will be molded around their body. Other patients will have a warm plastic mesh laid over their head that will be made into a mask.

This is a CT scanner, which kind of looks like a donut!

This is what the mask looks like for treatment! David is laying on his belly, and he has the mask holding his head still.

A mask is made for you if you need to have your head or neck treated.
